In the middle of the National Park
National Park hikes on Lake Neusiedl
In spring a lot is happening on Lake Neusiedl: the wide reed belt and the transition from water to land offers perfect breeding grounds for many rare animal species. Look forward to wonderful hikes with or without a guide.
Through the natural environment with Ruth
Ruth Hartmann offers great hikes right in Mörbisch. She will lead you to the middle of the reed and open your eyes and attention to rare bird species, some of which only breed here. From the majestic great white egrets and white storks to the small tits, Lake Neusiedl is a last resort for many. Animal species without wings, like spiders, frogs and of course a great range of flowers … you will see them all in a different light after the tour through the national park. New knowledge about the species and the newly trained eyes in combination with binoculars are much appreciated by fans of nature and birds.
The National Park Neusiedler See Seewinkel – a success story
As Europe's most western steppe lake the Burgenland locals knew very early about the meaning of this unique natural environment (steppe lakes have an extremely flat basin, Lake Neusiedl, for instance, only has a maximum depth of 1.8 metres). Already in the 30s people had ambitions to protect this area. But it was only declared “national park” in 1993 and stretches over almost 10,000 hectare on the Austrian side and further 23,000 hectare in neighbouring Hungary. Since 2001 Lake Neusiedl is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
You might also want to go on guided cycling tours with Ruth and get to know different sides of the area. We gladly put you in touch with the natural mediator, who lives in Mörbisch. Just send us a no obligation holiday enquiry for the thrilling spring months and look forward to all the small and bigger joys along with interesting sights that come with a holiday at Das Schmidt Private Hotel and Lake Neusiedl.
