In 2018, Esterházy Castle in Eisenstadt becomes the focal point of interest for music enthusiasts: the Haydn Festival is one of the most important musical festivals in Europe.
Since the Haydn Festival was first launched in 1986, it has focused on the complete works of Joseph Haydn who worked as a musician for the Esterházy estate in Eisenstadt for more than 40 years.

“My language is understood all over the world,” Joseph Haydn once famously said and his success proved him right. The composer worked in Eisenstadt from 1761 where most of his works were created. Joseph Haydn taught Ludwig van Beethoven who admired Haydn throughout his life. Salieri, Mozart, Empress Maria Theresia: the life and works of Joseph Haydn are accompanied by some of the biggest names of the era. Haydn pursued his artistic path undeterred in the Burgenland region.
The Haydn Festival focuses on the overall works of this diverse musician: his musical career spans from chamber music to spiritual works and large-scale symphonies.

„HERBSTGOLD – Festival in Eisenstadt“ heißt das neue Festival im Schlossquartier, das erstmals vom 09. bis 20. September 2020 die Haydn-Stadt mit den vier programmatischen Säulen aus Klassik, Balkan- und Romamusik, Jazz sowie Kulinarik und der Tradition des historischen Ortes von ihrer schönsten und klangvollsten Seite präsentiert.
