The entire picturesque old town has been accorded protected monument status. The streets are lined with numerous townhouses dating from the 16th to 19th centuries. Significant architecture in Rust by Lake Neusiedl: the Fisher’s Church

This impressive fortified church is based on the remains of a Roman watchtower. The oldest and most significant sacred building in Rust by Lake Neusiedl was continually extended and renovated from the 12th to the 16thcenturies. A Gothic church tower disappeared following its collapse at the end of the 19th century – 12th century fresco paintings were however laid bare during the same period. The Fisher’s Church in Rust by Lake Neusiedl is no longer a church and instead is used as a museum and concert venue.
